    Goodrich quarterback moving to Saline

by Dan Nilsen | The Flint Journal

    Saturday January 10, 2009, 7:47 PM

FLINT, Michigan - Joe Boisture, a major-college quarterback prospect who led Goodrich to its first undefeated football regular season last year, is taking his talents to Saline.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound junior confirmed Saturday he is moving with his family to the Washtenaw County town south of Ann Arbor and plans to be there in time for the second semester later this month.

Boisture said his father is moving his business there but also said football was a factor in the decision. Saline is a 1,759-student Class A school that plays football in Division 1. Goodrich played last year in Division 4, going 10-1 and reaching the second round of the playoffs.

"Saline is a great program that plays great competition week in and week out," Boisture said. "They play the best of the best, and that will help me get ready for college."

Boisture has scholarship offers from Boston College, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Wisconsin so far.

"It's going to be tough leaving Goodrich," he said. "I've made a lot of good friends and have good memories. Last year we went undefeated for the first time in school history. That was pretty cool, doing something that's never been done."

A pro-style quarterback, Boisture passed for 1,700 yards and 13 touchdowns in his first varsity season last fall. He missed his sophomore year with an elbow injury.

"A year of Joe Boisture is a pretty good deal," said Goodrich coach Tom Alward. "Obviously, we would have liked to have him longer, but I understand the situation and the level of competition.

"We wish him all the best. I'm sure he'll do well for Saline and whatever college he goes to. I just hope he doesn't forget his Goodrich roots."

Also a standout basketball player, Boisture said his last game with Goodrich will be the Jan. 20 contest against Grand Blanc. He said he won't play that sport as a senior.

"I wasn't going to play my senior year regardless of where I was," he said. "I've just got to focus on football to get bigger and stronger for college."

    Simms to leave Louisville

Louisville quarterback Matt Simms has decided to transfer, the school announced Wednesday afternoon.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Simms, the son of former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms and younger brother of ex-Texas and NFL quarterback Chris Simms, would likely have entered spring practice as the Cardinals' starter under center. A redshirt freshman, Simms was the backup to Hunter Cantwell this season after serving a four-game suspension for an undisclosed violation of team rules. He appeared in two games, completing four of 10 passes for 39 yards with an interception. There was no immediate word on where Simms would transfer, but sources indicated he was leaning toward the junior college route. Simms' departure leaves Louisville with no experienced quarterbacks and facing a wide-open competition for the starting job in the spring and fall. The candidates include junior Tyler Wolfe, NC State transfer Justin Burke, junior college transfer Adam Froman and freshman Zack Stoudt. Brian Bennett covers the Big East for ESPN.com.

No big surprise here after getting busted twice for alcohol related offenses twice in about a year ...

    Yeatman to transfer

Notre Dame tight end Will Yeatman has decided to transfer, a source close to the situation told The Journal Gazette on Monday.

Yeatman, a junior in football and with sophomore eligibility in lacrosse, received verbal confirmation to be released from his scholarships by both the football and lacrosse teams, the source said.

Yeatman had been suspended from the 2008 Notre Dame football season because of his arrest at an off-campus party in September.

It had been the second arrest in a year for Yeatman, who was suspended from the 2008 lacrosse season because of an OWI arrest in January.

The San Diego native played in three games this season for Notre Dame football, making two catches for six yards. During his career, he has eight catches for 43 yards.

Yeatman made his name as a lacrosse player at Notre Dame as the 6-foot-6, 260-pound attacker led the Irish in points (46) and assists (25) as a rookie in 2007. He also scored 21 goals and was named LaxPower's Rookie of the Year.

Yeatman had also been named an honorable mention All-American in 2007.

A message left for football sports information director Brian Hardin seeking comment from Charlie Weis was not immediately returned. Lacrosse coach Kevin Corrigan declined to comment on Yeatman's status.

It is unknown where Yeatman will transfer, although it'd be likely to be a school that has both football and lacrosse as options.
